I seek to understand the mechanisms shaping wildlife populations and communities across different landscapes, and how human pressures and ecological shifts impact these dynamics. By integrating different monitoring methods with advanced quantitative approaches, I investigate such questions and look to inform management strategies and conservation efforts. My previous research involved developing models to assess long-term abundance trends of furbearing species in Michigan, niche partitioning of sympatric squirrel species, studying the factors influencing the biodiversity of forest mammals, and the population structuring of Blanding’s turtles.
At the University of Wisconsin – Madison, I will be investigating loons in Isle Royale National Park. Through this project, I will use long-term datasets to investigate and gain insights about these populations useful for management and conservation. Additionally, I will be working with Dr. Benjamin Zuckerberg on a project investigating the urban ecology of Madison, Wisconsin
