Evolution is amazing! I love to study how species evolved and the factors that influence their current evolutionary path. To do this I use genetics combined with information such as geography, geology, ecology, and behavior.
For my postdoctoral research, I am working on the population genomics of sloth (Choloepus hoffmanni). To answer questions on population connectivity and migration, I am using next generation sequencing and a double digest RAD seq (ddRAD) approach for SNP discovery. I am also investigating the coevolution of sloths, their moths and their algae using molecular markers and phylogenetics. In addition to sloths, I collaborated on a lab project on martens (Martes sp.) in the Tongass National Forest, in which I extracted and sequenced DNA from Pleistocene and Holocene fossilized teeth.
